In a recent article in ScienceDaily scientists found that by combining two chemicals, including one found in green tea called EGCG, a protein structure known as amyloid can be prevented and destroyed.
Amyloids are the primary culprits in fatal brain disorders such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases.
Dr. Martin Duennwald of The Boston Biomedical Research Institute noted that the findings are the first time a combination of specific chemicals has successfully destroyed diverse forms of amyloids at the same time." Dr. James Shorter of University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine was the co-author of the study.
