A study out of the University of Sydney in Australia concluded that people who ate three to four servings of white rice a day were more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than people who ate one to two servings a week.
It matters how much eat, as the risk increases by 11% with each increased daily serving, accoring to an article on MSNBC.
The reason for this risk is white rice's high glycemic index, which means the body rapidly converts the carbohydrates in rice into glucose. The glycemic index of white rice is about 64, on a 100-point scale. (Orange juice rates a 50, according to data from Harvard.)
Other studies have shown that high glycemic index foods with an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Daily Dose of Fish Keeps Heart Disease, Diabetes at Bay
A new study out of Korea has shown that older men (40-69) who consume fish daily have a reduced risk (over a three-year period) of experiencing abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, low HDL cholesterol and high triglycerides -- all of which lead to metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a combination of risk factors for diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
At 57% -- the percentage of the the men studied who had a serving of fish a day and consequently had a lower risk for developing metabolic syndrome -- this is a significant finding.
An article on AOL Health explains that women who participated in the study didn't receive a notable reduction in risk and believe that the women may not have consumed enough omega-3s.
