Foods That Bolster the Heart

If you are like me, all of the men you know are reaching an age where they are beginning to worry about the health of their heart. So here are some foods that you can suggest they eat. You don't need to serve the food... you are too busy exercising.. just hand them this list.

Health Magazine came out with a list of 10 Heart Healthy Foods

1)Oatmeal
It the omega-3 fatty acids, folate, and potassium that make this a good food for your heart. It can lower the levels of LDL (or bad) cholesterol and help keep arteries clear.

2)Salmon
It's omega-3 fatty acids again that help reduce blood pressure and keep clotting at bay.

3)Avocado
This food is full of monounsaturated fat which lowers LDL levels while raising the amount of HDL cholesterol.

4)Olive oil
Here too it's the monounsaturated fat that provides the health benefit.

5)Nuts
Almonds, walnuts, and macadamia nuts are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and mono- and polyunsaturated fats.

6)Berries
Almonds, walnuts, and macadamia nuts are the good nuts.

7)Legumes
Lentils, chickpeas, and black and kidney beans contain calcium and soluble fiber as well as omega-3 fatty acids.

8)Spinach
Spinach contains lutein, folate, potassium and fiber.

9)Flaxseed
Just a small amount is full of fiber, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

10)Soy
Soy which is low in saturated fat, is still a great source of lean protein in a heart-healthy diet.
