Well it may not be the part about believing in a higher power that contributes to your health. More than likely it's the habits that the very religious have that makes them healthier.
In the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, only 14% of those that were identified as very religious smoked. That compares to 26% of those who are moderately religious who smokerd and 27.6% who are non-religious who smoked.
Looking at other factors, 68% of the very religious said that were healthy eaters as compared to 60% of the non-religious.
As for exercise 53% of the very religious had exercised for 30 minutes three times per week versus 47% of the non-religious.
The big question is why? What is connection between religion and healthy habits?
For now, we don't know.
