Those 12 Walnuts a Day

Why 12 I'm not quite sure but a small amount packs a big punch.

These nuts are not only a good source of protein (which is a great relief to those us trying to add more protein into our diets and not stock up so much on meat) but they contain fiber, B vitamins, magnesium, and antioxidants such as Vitamin E.

And they contain the good fat -- omega 3 fatty acids. In fact it's that source that has led to lower levels of LDL cholesterol.

Recent studies, published in the Journal of Nutrition, have shown walnuts can also lower the C-Reactive Protein (CRP) which was recently recognized as an independent marker and predictor of heart disease.

Not enough health benefits you say? OK well they can also boost brain power, help you sleep better and cope with stress.

And there is even a study about walnuts reducing the risk of breast cancer (so far it's only applicable to mice).
