Exercise Curbs Appetite

In a recent blog post I commented that an unexpected side benefit of my new exercise program was that I had a significant reduction in my appetite. Turns out this wasn't just my imagination.

In a study done at the University of Chile Clinical Hospital in Santiago, Dr. A. Veronica Araya identified a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). In the study, as reported by Reuters, BDNF levels were measured in a test group that had exercised using a treadmill and a bicycle.

At the end of the 3-month exercise period, study subjects showed a significant drop in body weight, waist size, and percentage body fat.

They also experienced a fall in blood pressure.
