Flax -- The Versatile, Healthy Food

When it showed up in my local discount store that also sells popular food items, I knew I had better start adding Flax to my diet. While I do buy cereals that include Flax flakes, it's now time to add it other things.

In a recent article in Natural Awakening, that explained the benefits of flax they were so numerous that I am now adding it to my protein shakes. First it's a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which most of us know by now is effective against several health ailments including inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, some cancers and atherosclerosis. Omega-3 in flax can also reduce cardiovascular disease by lowering the chance of blood clots, stroke and cardiac arrhythmias and reduce both total and LDL cholesterol.

Flax also has lignans, which are phytoestrogens that help protect against hormone-sensitive cancers according to Urology magazine.

Flax is a source of an anti-oxidant known as SDG, which can help slow down the development of diabetes.

And let's not forget that its fiber content can prevent constipation.
