Does a Happy Marriage Lower Your Blood Pressure?

Yes, according to a new study done by Julianne Holt-Lunstad, an assistant psychology professor at Brigham Young University, as reported by MSNBC.

The study found volunteers who will willing to wear devices that recorded their blood pressure at random times over 24 hours. Married participants also filled out questionnaires about their marriage.

The findings were that the more marital satisfaction and adjustment spouses reported, the lower their average blood pressure was over the 24 hours and during the daytime.

An interesting note to this study is that if you are in a bad marriage the stress can be "worse that being single". Although that statement seems judgmental, it's not. Many studies have shown the married people are healthier than single. ( No one said anything about them being happier or not!)
