I Just Knew Ice Cream Was Good For Me
For some reason, ice cream is my food of choice when I have stomach ache or when I need to celebrate something or when I want to cheer up my daughter. So over the years it's been one of my favorite "health" foods.
I didn't really think there was a provable health benefit until I came across an article from Health Magazine that was recently posted on CNN.
In a study conducted in Sweden, researchers found that women who had one serving of full-fat dairy products per day gained less weight than women who don't. They attribute this to the compound in milk fat called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).
Bonnie Gluck, M.S., R.D., a clinical dietitian at New York Methodist Hospital in New York City gives the following advice in the article. "Dairy should be part of your diet, whether you're trying to shed pounds or not. You need the calcium to maintain strong bones. And the vitamin D and CLA in milk both have cancer-fighting properties." She does tell you to limit to two serving a day due to the saturated fat content.
