Some Combinations Are Just Healthier

Are two food eaten together better than one? Turns out it's true.
In an article in Bottom Line, authored by Karen Collins, R.D. of the American Institute for Cancer Research, if you eat certain foods at the same meal it's healthier.

Here are some combinations:
Tomatoes and Broccoli -- Seems lycopene (an antioxidant) found in tomatoes works well with the glucosinolates (chemical compounds that flush carcinogens from the body) found in broccoli.

Brussels Spouts, Cabbage, or Broccoli and Brazil Nuts or Shellfish -
(Hardly a gourmet combination!) Those glocosinolates work well with the selenium found in Brazil nuts or shellfish.

Oranges, Apples, Grapes and Blueberries - All those antioxidants pouring into our bodies at once provides a powerful punch.

Tomatoes & Fat-
I'm not making this up! The lycopene can be effective against prostate cancer but only when it's taken with fat. So one tablespoon of oil should be used when eating tomatoes. Canola or olive oil are good choices. (And I thought it would be chocolate!)
