Mediation - Great Heath Benefits
People who haven't tried meditation think it's very hard to do. They envision a well-decorated room with incense, candles and mood music. While it can be all of that, I use the no-frills approach.
I do what's called a body scan and I do this right before I fall asleep. Basically you focus your mind on an imaginary white light that comes from above and enters through the top of your head and flows through you body. As you focus you mind on the light going through each body part you have cleared your mind of daily thoughts and are now putting your attention on your body. That's the hardest part of meditation --- trying to keep your mind quiet. If a thought does come up just acknowledge it and go back to the scan. You can do this for as little as five minutes and you will feel results. By slowing down the pace at which your body operates it can then reach its own healing state.
Studies have found people can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels by meditating on a regular basis. Meditation can reduce the level of stress hormones that enter the body and in turn reduce the wear and tear on the body.
Keep practicing and you'll know you are effective the day you can feel your fingers tingle from this light that you imagine filling your body.
